Bread and butter doesn't taste quite as good with out the bread.

Cheating

I'm on a diet. Or at least I would be on a diet if I quit cheating on the diet. The problem with cheating on your own diet is that you can't sneak around and hide it from yourself. I already know. It's kind of a bummer. If I didn't know I was cheating than I could be blissfully and ignorantly outraged when my diet didn't work. I could assume that evil forces were combining against me and turning my broccoli into mounds of milk chocolate. But only after I had swallowed the broccoli. As it is I know why the diet isn't working. This evening it was the several slices of thick, dense, very yummy bread I ate right before the mashed potatoes sitting in gravy. The chicken would have been allowed on the diet. But how can you only eat the chicken when the warm bread and mashed potatoes are sitting right there too? I had managed to make it two and a half full days on the diet. I think it would have been easier to keep my motivation if I had lost 10 pounds in those first two days. But I didn't. Funny how one evening out at a good restaurant with a friend can counteract two and a half full days of strict dieting. And because I didn't get up early enough to exercise before going to work and then went out for the bread and potatoes afterward (followed by a rather old ice cream bar) and now it's after 10pm--- I'm not even going to exercise.

I've been doing good with exercise lately. Although I'd like to think that I'm the type of person who loves to get up at four thirty in the morning and spend a couple hours running at full speed around the city or riding my bike a hundred miles every day, the truth is I like to sleep in. And sometimes hanging out on the couch in my pj's with a good book or watching wheel of fortune is more appealing to me. I'm kind of a slug that way. I have to really push myself to keep up my exercise routine.

So tomorrow morning I'll get up in time to exercise and I'll restart my diet AGAIN. And maybe I can make it a whole week this time with out ice cream.
